Course Overview

Our Unlocking The Shoulder course is designed to equip participants with a deeper understanding of shoulder biomechanics and dysfunction. Participants will gain an understanding of body reading to identify structural imbalances and asymmetries. We will explore the concept of locked long and locked short muscles, shedding light on the intricate interplay between muscle tension and postural integrity. Participants will gain insights into common pain patterns associated with the shoulder such as discomfort between the shoulder blades, and its relationship with neck pain, upper trapezius pain and stiffness, empowering them to effectively help address these issues.

Furthermore, our course will provide a review in detail of the muscle and bony landmark anatomy of the shoulder and arm, ensuring participants develop a comprehensive understanding of the underlying structures involved in shoulder function. Finally, participants will acquire practical hand skills and massage techniques tailored specifically to unlock imbalances in the shoulder and surrounding tissues, enabling them to deliver targeted interventions that promote optimal shoulder health and function.

As part of your course, you'll receive an Optineck Balance Wedge to take away with you on the course day (usually retailing at £48!)

You'll learn how to use this invaluable tool in your treatments of the shoulder.

Course Syllabus

• Introduction to body reading - specifically around the shoulder and scapulae positioning
• Understanding locked long and locked short muscles
• Understanding pain patterns associated with the shoulder including discomfort between the shoulder blades, and its relationship with neck pain, upper trapezius pain and stiffness
• Muscle and boney landmark anatomy of the shoulder and arm
• Hand skills and massage techniques to correct imbalances in the shoulder and surrounding tissues

Assessment Criteria

You will be assessed throughout the day to ensure you are providing safe treatments. You will receive your Cotswold Academy Certificate of Attendance at the end of the day to take away with you.

Certification and CPD Points: 

Cotswold Academy Certificate of Attendance - 5 CPD points per day

Entry Requirements

In order to take part in this course, you must already have acquired a massage based diploma such as Level 3 Diploma in Massage / Aromatherapy / Sports Massage or equivalent such as Physiotherapy, Osteopathy, Chiropractic or Accupuncture. We will ask you to provide a copy of your qualification. Please enquire if you are uncertain about your qualification.
