New Year, New You. NO! Take on 2025 with Calm Focus and Gentle Intent.
As the New Year approaches, there’s often talk about reinventing ourselves—creating a “new you” to step boldly into the future. But what if, instead of becoming someone new, 2025 became the year you uncovered more of you? By peeling back the layers and embracing your authentic self, you can align with what truly matters and guide yourself through the year gently as opposed to feeling like you’ve not reached your goal by February so you give up!
This might sound easy, be more you?! Simple. But actually, this is a move for the brave. To expose yourself, go for the things you REALLY want, and cultivate a robust and grounded ‘you’ who is confident in their internal compass and not swayed by the winds. That’s a unique thing.
Let’s talk about some ideas for clearing space for that type of thinking along with tips to help you manage some of the common challenges we find ourselves facing on a daily basis.
Let’s aim to start 2025 with calm focus, and anchors to keep you on the path that you’d like to travel this year.
Here are some ideas and strategies to help you find the journey that’s right for you in 2025.
Future Visioning: Imagine December 2025
Trust me, this exercise is BRILLIANT. Give it a chance.
First, set yourself up. Put on some meditative music, get some mood lighting on the go, and a clean page in your notebook.
Start picturing yourself in December 2025. What does it look like? Where are you? What are you doing? How do you feel? How has your year gone? Has anything specific happened?
Write these things down as if you are already there and these things have happened. Build the picture in as much detail as possible and really lean into how it makes you feel, try to imagine yourself there. How do you walk and talk, or hold yourself?
Once you have enjoyed creating a vivid picture, take some time to work backward and write down:
- What steps do you need to take to get there?
- What small thing can you do each day or each week towards that December?
Reminder: This doesn’t have to be about creating a huge goal for the end of 2025. The purpose of this blog is to support you to decide on a journey that helps you find more of yourself and feel good. If that is a big change, great! But it might be as simple as daily focus on your mindset, or establishing routines for yourself based around your health & happiness.
Tip to Manage the Limiting Beliefs/ Negative Thoughts: Negative thoughts are often the thing that gets in the way of moving towards something that you want. When they arise try hard to notice them and practice shifting them to slightly better feeling thoughts. For example, replace “I’ll never get there” with “I’m making progress, one step at a time.” As you do this consistently, you will change the neural pathways in your brain and find that the negative thoughts come up less and less.
